Arran Adventure September 2026
Published Friday, 27th March 2026
Arran Adventure is a unique expedition around the Isle of Arran, taking place from 4th to 10th September 2026. Designed specifically for wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans, this fully supported programme offers an opportunity to rebuild confidence, resilience and connection through adventure.
Often described as “Scotland in miniature,” the Isle of Arran offers a diverse and inspiring landscape. From the rugged northern highlands to the gentler southern lowlands, the island provides stunning coastal views, including vistas across to mainland Scotland and the Kintyre peninsula. Its strategic position at the mouth of the Firth of Clyde also gives it a rich military history, spanning from the Neolithic period to the present day.
This expedition has been carefully selected to provide both challenge and accessibility. Arran’s relatively gentle tidal conditions make it particularly well suited for those new to expedition paddling. Unlike more exposed coastal environments, the island is largely sheltered by the surrounding mainland, allowing for a safer and more supportive experience while still delivering a genuine sense of adventure.
Participants will journey around the island by water, covering approximately 49.9 nautical miles (92.4 km) over a series of short and moderate paddling days. The route will take in key areas including Lochranza, the Firth of Clyde, and the surrounding coastal waters such as the Sound of Bute, Kilbrannan Sound, and the Sound of Pladda. The timing of the expedition, just three days after neap tides, has been chosen to provide more manageable tidal conditions.
Leading this expedition, as well as a training weekend (dates tbc but likely June) will be highly experienced instructors, including Royal Marine veterans and Advanced Sea Leaders, from the Royal Marines Association's Paddle Group; their expertise, combined with a strong understanding of rehabilitation and team development, ensures participants are supported throughout in a safe, encouraging and professionally delivered environment.
Throughout the week, participants will be encouraged to challenge themselves at their own pace, develop new skills, and build meaningful connections with others who share similar experiences. Alongside the physical journey, there will be opportunities for reflection, personal development and growth.
This is sure to be a fantastic experience for all participants, if you are interested in joining this expedition or you know of anyone who may be a worthy beneficiary, please get in touch at: info@65degreesnorth.org. No expedition experience is necessary, just the will to take part.
