HDV 25 Norway – A Journey of Resilience and Change
Published Thursday, 24th April 2025The 65 Degrees North team has returned safely from Norway after an extraordinary expedition across the stunning but unforgiving Hardangervidda Plateau. What began with intensive training quickly turned into a powerful test of endurance, teamwork, and mental resilience.
From day one, the team tackled the extreme environment head on, learning survival skills, pulling sleds through deep snow, and acclimatising to biting Nordic winds. Spirits were high as we set off from Ustaoset, completing a challenging ascent to Tuva Hut and, in between gasps for air, soaking in the breathtaking views offered in this fabulous area.
But, as ever, the weather had its own plans. As we approached the half-way point of the crossing, visibility dropped and winds intensified, the team was forced to adapt quickly. Faced with deteriorating conditions and local expert advice that the descent route into Rjukan was too dangerous, a tough decision was made to abandon the original route southward and instead turn back North to Tuva Hut as the only viable escape route to reassess and pivot the original expedition plan.
What followed was a display of grit and unity. The team embraced new objectives, taking on ski touring challenges across the plateau, pushing on through adversity while remaining committed to the mission.
Though the full crossing wasn’t completed, the expedition was a resounding success in delivering on our core mission: rehabilitation through adventure. The team covered vast distances in hostile conditions, reinforcing the value of shared hardship, purpose, and the power of the outdoors in inspiring personal change.
We’re proud of every individual who took part and grateful to our sponsors, particularly Jottnar for their top-tier technical gear and Viasat for essential emergency communications.
As always, we return with stories, lessons, and renewed motivation to keep pushing boundaries. Onward to the next challenge.
