Rock Week 2025: Recovery, Resilience, and Rediscovery on the Cornish Coast
September saw 65 Degrees North return to the dramatic coastline of Pendeen, Cornwall, for Rock Week 2025 a transformative week bringing together wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans for a powerful journey of challenge, connection, and recovery through adventure.
From the very first day, participants stepped into an environment shaped by shared experience and mutual support. The Cornish cliffs, once used by WW2 Commandos to prepare for operations in mainland Europe, offered a stunning backdrop for the week’s programme of top-roping, single and multi-pitch climbing, and abseiling. For many, these challenges represented far more than physical achievement. Each route taken, each belay partnership, and each moment of trust contributed to rebuilding confidence, strengthening resilience, and rediscovering purpose.
The following days saw the group transition to the magnificent and imposing Main Face at Bosigran, a location famous for its steep, committing routes and breathtaking views of the Atlantic crashing below. Multi-pitch climbs and more technical terrain demanded focus, teamwork, and determination and the team responded with increasing confidence, embracing each challenge with courage and positivity. High morale, shared laughter, and genuine camaraderie defined the days, reinforcing the power of outdoor adventure as a catalyst for recovery and healing.
Throughout the week, participants consistently demonstrated courage and growth. As stories were shared and friendships formed, the cliffs became a place not only of challenge, but of renewal. The energy, determination, and teamwork displayed by the group highlighted why experiences like Rock Week are so vital for those navigating life after injury or illness.
No previous climbing experience was required, and all activities were delivered safely by our experienced instructors and guides. With the support of the 65 Degrees North team, participants pushed beyond perceived limits, proving that even the most daunting route can be tackled one step, one hold, and one moment of belief at a time. That the week culminated in the group completing an ascent of the challenging and iconic Commando Ridge in challenging conditions bore testament to the commitment and resilience of this special group of people.
At its heart, Rock Week 2025 was about far more than climbing. It was about rediscovering confidence, reconnecting with others who share similar experiences, and finding hope in the healing power of the outdoors. We are immensely proud of every individual who took part, and of the community that continues to form through each challenge we undertake together.
